Heavy Vehicle Certifications
From February 2014 Heavy Vehicle regulation in Australia became a National responsibility, the National Heavy Vehicle Law came into force and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) was formed.
From February 2014 all modifications to vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Mass of over 4.5t require certification and a Modification Plate to be fitted. Where these modifications can be conducted in accordance with VSB6 and that code of practise has been followed, certification can be completed by an Appropriately Qualified Authorised Vehicle Examiner. Where the modification is not covered by VSB6 it is necessary to work with an AVE to make an application to the NHVR for approval to modify under section 87 of the act. This is a more involved and complex process and can take time to complete.
If you are planning a modification not covered by VSB6, please call and discuss your project as early as is practical in the project.
VSB6 requires that modifications be completed in accordance with the Cab Chassis Manufacturer's Body Builders Guide. Please be aware that these vary widely in their requirements. Some things required by one manufacturer are sometimes forbidden by another. These guides can be challenging to interpret and apply to the situation you are facing. In this circumstance we can assist you to develop a compliant solution.
